Overlooking the entrance at Mangawhai Heads, on New Zealand’s North Island. The sandy dunes on the far side are a wildlife reserve where the endangered New Zealand Dotterels are breeding. Several weeks after our visit, a pod of Orcas swam through the Heads into the estuary!
